Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Matthew Barone has proudly dedicated six years of service in the United States Air Force. He currently serves as a full-time C-17 (Globemaster III) Aircraft Maintenance Technician at the 145th Airlift Wing in Charlotte NC. When he's not at the base, Matthew is taking technology to new heights...literally. Matthew obtained his FAA Certified Commercial Drone Operator license and started his own company, Barone Aerial Drone Services. "I have always wanted to become a pilot and found a way through flying drones. I started out only doing real estate aerial photography, but now it has changed into real estate virtual tours, working with contractors with commercial & residential construction, flying for public events and 3-D modeling."
So far, Matthew's favorite project was flying his drone for a personal family event with a loudspeaker and banner attached to the drone. "The family was celebrating their fantasy football championship with the winners utilizing the loudspeaker to give the losers some grief. It was a very unique experience and an extremely fun time!"
A typical day for SSgt Barone starts at the 145th Airlift Wing where he works from 0500 (5:00AM) to 1500 (3:00PM). From there, he drives directly to a client's location to shoot aerial drone photography, then rushes home to upload the footage and begin his edits. "After all that is done, I will start on my homework because I am also a full time IT student."
