"Solider On" is a phrase (or, verb) embedded in the soul of every military veteran and typically
means "to continue to do something or try to achieve something even though it is difficult or
challenging." Mooresville resident, Rhana Kurdi, recently made the bittersweet decision to
"soldier on" as she retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel with 22 years of
dedicated service. Her face lights up when she reflects on her time in service as she fondly
recalls the variety of roles she served in, the lives touched as a leader and a follower, and the
impact of serving in over 20 locations worldwide. "I retired from an organization built on protecting
the freedom of its citizens, and those fortunate to serve, I did it selflessly and wholeheartedly."
Rhana enlisted in 1997 as a Logistical Specialist and, shortly thereafter, was recognized for her
leadership potential and earned her commission through the Army's Green-to-Gold program in
2002. As a Military Intelligence Officer, she led numerous operations and deployed on multiple
occasions where her duties included serving as the Kurdish and Iraqi Military Liaison Officer,
Analysis Platoon Leader and Arabic Linguist. Rhana is a graduate of the highly competitive
Command General Staff College and culminated her distinguished military career as the
Professor of Military Science at Old Dominion University.
Retirement hasn't stopped Rhana! She is the Founder/CEO of Rhana Kurdi Consulting and
Business Coaching, active member of the The Exchange Club of Mooresville-Lake Norman and
was recently named the Executive Director of LaunchLKN, a non-profit serving the
entrepreneurial community at Lake Norman. Rhana, her husband, Sid, and their three children
reside in Mooresville.
